I am going to an afternoon wedding in late October in a cooler climate. The wedding is in a church; no indication on the invitation as to casual/formal, etc. My husband is in the wedding and will be wearing a tuxedo; since I assume we will be in pictures together, I don't want to be super-underdressed. Any ideas?

Dear Guest,
You would want to be dressed as one of the guests or you may appear to be one of the members of the family. So, dress as you would to a very nice restaurant and you should be fine.

Thank you for your response. I have heard that you shouldn't wear black if the wedding is in the daytime, and this wedding is at 2:30. Is that a hard and fast rule?
Thanks!

Not any more. We all love black so much and it really has no negative connotations, so it is no longer viewed as inappropriate. Rebecca Black, Etiquette Now

I suggest a nice cocktail dress. At least this way you will be dressed up for the occasion and it will be appropriate whether the wedding is formal or not. Cocktail attire fits into both categories as long as the dress doesn't have a lot of embellishements that would make it look too dressy.
As far as wearing black...black is back for weddings and isn't going anywhere. You can't go wrong with a black dress, so that might be your best bet. You might also want to wear a nice shawl since the weather will be cooler where the wedding is.
