Man's attire for a formal evening wedding

I’ll be attending a wedding in September at 6PM. The wedding is expected to be very formal but there was nothing on the invitation stating that it is ‘black tie.’ My girlfriend is part of the wedding party and the dress is a dark-bright pink if that makes sense. I wanted to wear a light colored, khaki or sandstone, suit with a cobalt blue shirt with appropriate tie. After some consideration, I believe a dark suit or even a tuxedo would be most fitting. Even if the invite doesn’t state the wedding is ‘black tie,’ would a tux be over the top? Obviously, I don’t want to seem that I’m trying to seek attention. Will a black pinstripe or charcoal suit be the wisest choice? Thank you much.

Dear Dressing Up,

The tux would be a bit over the top if this isn't supposed to be black tie. It may appear as if you are in the bridal party. So, the suit would be fine. The lighter color is perfect for this time of year, unless you are in a cold climate. That would be my first choice. But, the dark suit would be fine as well.

Best wishes,
