My husband and I are attending a garden wedding in July that starts at 5:30 pm. We live in Indiana, so summers are very warm, and the location of the wedding makes me think that my husband should wear a suit. He only owns one black wool suit. Do you think that we need to invest in a lighter colored, light weight summer suit for this wedding?

Typically for weddings the suits are dark even in the heat of summer. As long as the wool is not too heavy, this will be fine. It really is the heaviness of the material that matters most these days. So, you will have to be the judge.
