My mother and I are going shopping for outfits this weekend, but neither one of us know what style of dress to wear. The wedding is in November, early evening, 4pm with reception to follow. The invitation does not state white or black tie? (This is my parent's nephew.) Also, should my husband wear a coat and tie or just a tie?
Thank you for your advice,
Julie

Re: [sjharmon] November early evening wedding guest attire

Dear Julie,
If you wear the attire you would wear to any special event at that time, you will be fine. More than likely it would be the little black dress or its equivalent, which means a nice evening suit would be fine.
Your husband could wear a suit, but he may be able to get by with a very nice blazer and slacks. The suit is the best choice though.
He wouldn't wear a tie without a jacket. Many times men will take off their jackets, after they arrive. But it isn't the best to arrive with a tie and no jacket.
