Proper wedding attire for town hall ceremony

I am getting married in May. I am wearing slacks and a lace blouse. My fiance is wearing a suit. We are getting married at town hall. Our reception is on a dinner cruise. I don't want guests to wear shorts, but I don't want anyone to wear a formal gown. What should I do?? Should I put down it is informal and take my chances?

Thank you

Tracie

Dear Wedding Attire, Typically we do not mention attire on a reception invitation unless formal attire is necessary. However, we get around this when attire is mandatory at country clubs or.... let's stretch that to cruises. Cruise lines do have somewhat of a dress code, so probably writing "evening resort casual' on the bottom left of the invitation should do it. Congratulations!
