     Semi formal to formal wedding

I am attending a semi-formal to formal wedding in a couple of weeks. The ceremony starts at 5:30, with the reception immediately following at a very fancy downtown hotel.

I would love to be able to wear a satin knee-length red dress, but I've seen on your forum that red seems to be taboo. Does this apply universally? The bride is very trendy, and not very traditional (although her dress will be white). The bridesmaid dresses are elegant long gowns, but quite low cut. Many of the girls attending are not the type that usually dress to blend in with a crowd. In this situation, is red still taboo? My other option is a black dress with some beading detail along the chest area, beaded spaghetti straps and a lace insert at the back and bottom of the dress (the bottom is assymetrical, just below the knee). Do you think this would be too dressy, if the red doesn't work?

Thank you for your help.

Dear Loves the Red,

I love red also and you just may see some there with other young ladies who don't like to blend in. But, red does attract the eye. This is your choice though. This is just something I think would not be the wisest choice and is typically considered taboo. A good guests we should want to honor the bride.

The black would be perfect though.

Best wishes,
