My boyfriend has invited me to attend a wedding of a close highschool friend - I have never met the couple. All I know about the wedding is that it starts at 7pm and will be held in a Catholic church, with the reception to follow at the same location. I have no knowledge of the formality and my boyfriend has misplaced the invitation (figures!). I am not one to wear basic black and was wondering if a strapless hot pink dress with a large black bow around the waist would be too loud/informal? (See pic below) I have a beautiful beaded-lace shawl that I was going to wear that will help dress it up. The wedding is in Atlanta where the weather is still hot. Is the pink too much for a fall/evening/potentially formal wedding? Please help!!

I know you said you're not one to wear basic black but the time and event location say something about the formality of the event. Opt for something other than the hot pink dress. I live in Atlanta so I know what the weather is like around 7:00 p.m. But you are going to be inside, not outdoors. Also, you'll be in a church so the dress needs to be somewhat conservative. I completely agree. Plus, the one thing we wouldn't want to do is to draw attention away from the bride. This dress just may do that. Rebecca Black, Etiquette Now
