Wedding Guest Attire for afternoon wedding and evening reception
My husband's sister will be getting married in about three weeks. There will be church ceremony at 2:00 pm and a reception in the evening. My husband will be a groomsmen and I will be participating in the church ceremony, however I am not part of the wedding party. I have decided to wear a pink satin 3/4 length dress with black trim accompanied by a small 3/4 sleeve matching pink jacket for both the church and reception. Is this too formal or not formal enough? Should I have two outfits, one for the church and one for the reception?

Dear Eimeria:
Although you may not be part of the wedding party, per se, you are going to be part of the church ceremony. Wear attire that complements the wedding party. If what you described does, then you are okay for both ceremony and reception. Your dress doesn't have to be an exact mirror of the wedding party, just complementary.
I hope this helps. Rhonda Allen, Bridal Consultant New Beginnings Weddings

Thanks for your help, I was really worried about my outfit. However, I am not too clear on complimentary to the wedding party. The bride's color will be lavender, so do you think pink is complimentary to this?

I think violet or lilac would complement the lavender color scheme a bit better.
