     Wedding at the Ritz!

Friends are having a church wedding in the North End of Boston and a 7 PM reception at the Ritz Carlton. Is it too "over the top" if I wear a grey taffeta ball skirt with a cream lace top (three-quarter sleeves, scoop neck)? Thanks!

Dear Ritzy,

I would think so. If the invitation did not state formal or black tie, I wouldn't dress in ultra-formal attire. Usually an invitation would state this dress code.

Most likely you would dress in cocktail attire, the little black dress or its equivalent.

Best wishes,
