Wedding in Upstate NY - afternoon wedding

Hi,

I was invited to an early afternoon wedding (1-2pm) in mid-May and was wondering if wearing a strapless black dress w/ a pink shawl/wrap will be OK. My friend told me that wearing black is not appropriate for afternoon weddings.... Can you please advise?

Thanks!

You can never go wrong with a black dress. That is why the "simple black dress" is a necessity in a woman's closet. Plus the fact that you are accessorizing with color will brighten up the look and make it more fun for a daytime wedding.

Have fun at the wedding!

Dear Upstate,

Actually, up until just a few years ago it was considered in bad taste to wear black to a wedding before six. But, now it is fine. Good news to all of us who love black.

Best wishes,
