     What is too dressy?

Is a dark brown satiny halter dress appropriate for a 40-something yr old to wear to a later afternoon church wedding? The dress has a traditional V cut in the front like halter dresses often do, and is just below the knee in length.
The reception is dinner and dancing at a country club. I would wear a wrap of some sort over it for the wedding.

I would like to be dressy, but don't want to look like part of the wedding party.

Dear Wedding Guest,

As long as the dress doesn't appear to be a dress an attendant would wear, it should be fine. This is probably a cocktail attire event and your dress seems to be in that formality.

Definitely wear the wrap in church.

Best wishes,
