What should fiance to father of the bride wear to the wedding
My fiance's daughter is getting married in November in Florida. It is a 1:30 wedding with cocktail hour following then the reception. I live in the north and am unsure proper attire for a Nov wedding. The colors in the party are red and white. My fiance is giving his daughter away so he will be in a tux. This is the first time meeting his family so I would like to look nice. I bought a black dress that has subtle outlines of flowers in red. It is sleeveless and just below the knee. I also have a black dress with a cap sleeve. I don't want to look like a country bumkin, so pls help me. Thnx

Dear Guest,
It is difficult to know without knowing exactly where it will be held. But, if he is wearing a tux, which is not proper since the tux is formal evening attire, I suppose this is a semi-formal affair.
Either dress should be fine. The only problem would be if the red on the dress was pronounced. Red is one of their colors. Plus, it is an inappropriate color for a guest.

Thank you for the information. The wedding is being held at a pretty elegant place. The red in the dress is a very fine line. I think though to be safe I will wear the black one. Can you help me with a shoe? Thnx

Any shoe that seems to match the formality of your dress is fine. If it is an open toe do not wear hose. It is a fashion faux pas. Rebecca Black, Etiquette Now
