I'm going to my boyfriend's cousin's wedding in mid-October. I have met his parents and his aunt and uncle, parents of the bride. I'm 15 and I've only been to one wedding so I have no clue what to wear. I don't know whether it's formal or not. My boyfriend doesn't know either. I'm thinking its formal..ish. I think it starts at 3:00 in a church then the reception will be held later indoors. I know they're serving dinner; its not like appetizers or anything. I have this one dress that I'm thinking could work.. but I don't know. It's strapless, (I'm wearing a shall in the picture), and it is floor length. Is this too formal? My cousin said I should get it shortened and have the people at the store attach straps. Help me

Dear Guest,
More than likely your dress is too formal.
I would suppose that you could wear something similar that would be to the knee. You would want to wear something over your shoulders because this is a church wedding.

What about the shall like in the picture? I could get it shortened. Would straps help?

The shawl is good, but the straps wouldn't add much. We are just concerned with the issue of too much skin in church settings. So a jacket or the shawl would help with this. Rebecca Black, Etiquette Now

I'll go with the shawl and keep covered good in the church. What do you think about getting the dress shortened? I think the length might make it too formal.

I agree that long implies formal. Getting it shortened is a good idea. Rebecca Black, Etiquette Now
