afternoon elegance attire on wedding invitation

I just received an invitation to an August wedding that requests "Afternoon elegance attire." Any hints to what that might entail?

Dear Dressing Elegantly,

Don't you just love those inventive, yet confusing dress codes? There is no such thing. Plus, this shouldn't have been mentioned on the invitation. If it was on an enclosure, the host should have been considerate enough to decode it for you.

So, we will have to guess according to the time of day and location, which is what we usually do. The dress code could be anything from cocktail attire to formal. Let me know the where and when (time of day) and hopefully we can work this out.

Best wishes,

The wedding is at 10:00 a.m. (with reception following immediately) and will be at the Hyatt Regency in Huntington Beach, CA.

Most probably it would be best to dress as if you were going on a first date to a very nice restaurant.
