black and white wedding, morning, but formal?

My husband and I are attending a wedding in late May. The wedding is a black and white theme, 11 am. Both the ceremony and the reception are at a very ritzy location. The groom is going to be ultra formal, wearing a top hat. Yet he tells my husband some of his family will be wearing jeans. I am sooo confused. Can I wear black since that is what the bridal party will be wearing? I know a morning wedding is supposed to be more informal, but since the groom is wearing a top hat, should I go with cocktail, or more? Please help! Thanks so much.

Dear Guest,

More than likely it will be 'elegant' cocktail attire even though the groom is in very formal attire. So, you could wear the very best little black dress. Your husband could wear a nice suit.

Best wishes,
