guest attire for a 5PM wedding in Virginia

I am a guest attending a 5:00 Wedding in church, with a reception to follow at a country club in Virginia. Formal attire? Should my guest wear a tux?

Dear Guest,
If the invitation stated formal attire, a tux would be perfect. If it didn't, a suit would be fine.
