I am from a small town in the Midwest - my husband's brother is getting married in California this August. I would really appreciate any advice as to what I should wear. The wedding takes place at 10:30 AM.
Also, is a black suit okay for my husband?

Dear Guest,
It is difficult to know. You need to know how formal this wedding is. We would need more information, like where it is being held, how formal the invitation is, and what type of reception follows the wedding. This could be very informal or very formal.
Please gather more information so we can better answer your question. Rebecca Black, Etiquette Now

I asked the bride directly, she is calling the wedding "California Casual". The ceremony is at Pepperdine University, Stauffer's Chapel. The reception is called a Cocktail Reception from 12:00 to 1:00.
Thank You.

Great! This is easy. Just wear attire that you would feel comforable wearing to a nice restaurant and you will be fine. Pay very close attention to the quality of your choices though. Everything should be high quality.
