guest attire for formal summer Houston wedding

The invitation says "formal attire". The wedding is at 7pm. in Houston in the summer followed by cocktails and the reception. What is appropriate attire for guests for a formal wedding? Do I have to wear a dress or would a pantsuit or skirt be appropriate? What should my husband wear.

Because the invitation says formal attire and also because the ceremony is after 6:00 pm, I would say a pant/skirt suit for a woman would be inappropriate. I would suggest wearing a formal dress or a cocktail dress. As for your husband, if the invitation said Black Tie suggested then he should wear a tux, but if it does not a formal suit would do. Good luck and have fun!
