What is the proper attire for a formal wedding in Oct. in NY City? The wedding is 1 o'clock at St. Patricks Catheral with the reception to follow at 3 o'clock, at the delegates dining room at the United Nations Building. Would a black short-sleeved cocktail dress be appropriate? Also, should my husband wear a dark suit or a tux?

Dear Formal Wedding,

Your dress should be fine. It would be even better if you had a matching jacket just because it would add another layer of formality. Tuxes are evening formal attire, so the suit would be better.

Best wishes,
