Help, I am hoping that my just below the knee, beautifully cut, black sleeveless dress will be appropriate for a "black tie" wedding. The 5pm church ceremomy with estate reception immediately following has me concerned that some will be wearing "gowns". I will wear a gorgeous pair of open toe black snake evening shoes and have a very dressy wrap for evening and/or church.

Dear Stressing,
You will probably find a variety of dresses at this event, because black tie for women can be cocktail dresses to evening gowns. It all depends on the degree of formality, which doesn't make it any less stressful. Sorry.
So, long story short... I'm guessing that your dress will be a safe middle ground dress. With your shoes and wrap and if you attend to your hair and makeup, I'm guessing that you will be fine.

Thank you for your advice. Only one more thing, I dont have extremely fancy jewelry, other than pearl studs, 1-carat diamond studs. Should I buy some costume jewelery, or what?

If you could get a hold of a pearl necklace, you would be fine. There are so many good looking faux strings on the market these days. But, perhaps you could borrow one for the event.
I don't spend much on jewelry, but did splurge on a nice necklace. It seems as though the pearl necklace is perfect in so many situations.
As Rebecca says, pearls are timeless and go great with just about everything so why not buy one for yourself? Top Wedding Questions Forum Moderator - "Write your sorrows in the sand, your blessings in stone".
