what to wear to fall wedding

Hi there. Please help! I have a wedding to go to in september. I have this gorgeous red silk floor long dress with spagetti straps. It is a long narrow dress. the front of the dress is quite simple--and has a wide collar that shows the neck well. it looks simple but elegant. the back of the dress is more fancy--it has a low back, and a bit of pleats around the back waist flowing down to the floor. the only way i can describe it is that is very 1930's esq. It is elegant, but also tastefully a little sexy (the back). The wedding reception is at 5:30 pm and the dinner starts at 6:30. I think the wedding is pretty formal, based on the formality of the wedding invitations--thick paper, old fashion engraved text etc. but there is no mention on the wedding invitation if its black tie, formal, casual. Can you please tell me if this dress would be fine. also what kind of jewellery, shoes, and accessories would you reccommend. looking forward to your advice!

Dear Going to a Wedding,

This dress is formal. I'm thinking that it may be too formal. Plus, red is the only absolute no-no color for wedding guests. Red is a powerful color that attracts attention away from the bride. You may see others wearing it, but they really shouldn't.

It is my guess that a cocktail dress would be best. It isn't a must that it be black, but should have the same feel as the 'little black dress'.

Best wishes,
