     Gulp!

Is it proper etiquette for the groom to pick out very expensive suits for his groomsmen and best man, and ask them to pay for the suits themselves?

It is customary for the groom to select the attire to be worn by his wedding party and it is expected that each member of the bridal party (groomsmen, ushers, ring bearer) will pay for their own tuxedo, suit or rental.

Sorry if you are finding the cost of the suit to be more than you had expected but there isn;t much you can do that would be considered in good taste except to accept the choice and go to the wedding and eat a huge amount of shirimp to offset your cost! Wink
