     Tie Etiquette

Help! Time is running out to determine my fiancés ensemble. We are having a Church Wedding with a Dinner Reception beginning at 6:30. The reception is being held at his Father’s posh country club (out of my league) and I’m stuck. My dress is a formal mermaid gown with long embroidered bell sleeves. He wanted to wear a cravat but unfortunately it doesn’t suit him well. He refuses to wear a bow tie and his groomsmen are wearing black ties (not bows either). Understandably, we want him to be dressed different than the rest. We are considering a white tie and white pocket square and it looks fantastic on him, but we fear we may be incorrect with respect to etiquette. His father owns several tuxedos and will more than likely don a black bow tie for the event. Your guidance is greatly appreciated.

What you wish for you grooms dress sounds wonderful with the white tie and pocket square. Unless his father is in the bridal party, his attire will be affected.

Dear Princess Bride, I recommend having the ushers hold down the groom and wrestle him into the tuxedo and bow tie. JUST KIDDING. Your groom needs to feel comfortable in his attire. A white tie and pocket square would be lovely. Enjoy your wedding!

Dear Princess,

Not much more I can add, except that I completely agree. Your ideas are perfect.

Congratulations!
