We're getting married on a Greek Island on August 26 at 7 pm. It will be an outdoor ceremony in a vineyard overlooking the ocean. I'm going to be wearing a formal gown. Because of the heat at that time of year, my fiance doesn't want to wear a tuxedo. We've read that a white linen dinner jacket worn with black wool pants with the traditional black satin stripe is acceptable but my fiance hates wool pants and dreads the thought of wearing them in August. Is there an acceptable linen alternative? People must not wear linen suits much anymore since we can't even find anyone selling new ones, only vintage white linen dinner jackets. We have noticed a lot of all white suits (white jacket with or without tails, white vest, white shirt, white tie, white pants) for sale and rent, but we haven't found ANY etiquette advice that even mentions completely white suits. Would that be acceptable? Would it be acceptable in linen?
I know this is a lot of questions so I thought I would restate them in a numbered format: 1. Is it good etiquette to wear a white linen dinner jacket with linen pants? 2. If linen pants are acceptable, how should they look? Should they still have a black satin stripe? 3. Is it proper etiquette for the groom to wear a completely white suit - white tie, white vest, white shirt, white jacket, white pants? 4. If yes to the above question, would it still be proper in linen?
Thank you for your help in advance. We're so confused about all these rules!

Here are my thoughts on your dilema. Tuxedos are made of wool, wool is a natural fiber, natural fibers breath. Linen makes you sweat, it wrinkles, it looks sloppy once it wrinkles. I suggest an elegant white dinner jacket that is made of super 100's wool, that is actually of white with black fined wool tuxedo pants, they will acutally be cooler to wear then the linen.
I completely agree. This will look much better and is what the etiquette doctor ordered.
If your fiance still won't go for the warm weather tux, research what is worn for formal events in Greece. There may be something cooler for him to wear that the locals view as proper.
Thank you for your response! What about the all white suit option? I've been seeing a lot of them for sale. What is the etiquette on them.
It was my question #3: 3. Is it proper etiquette for the groom to wear a completely white suit - white tie, white vest, white shirt, white jacket, white pants?
He could wear the white suit if your wedding is not considered formal. Formal means tuxes. But, if it is less than formal, the suit is fine--white or no.
Actually, I love the all white in warm climates. Rebecca Black, Etiquette Now
