     Black tie for garden wedding

I am getting married at 5pm on 7-7-07 (Summer) at a Golf Club. Ceremony on Site, Cocktail Hour & Reception immediately following 6-11pm. Cocktail Hour is in the Club House, Reception in a Rustic Outdoor Pavillion.

The bridesmaid dresses are tea length / Navy Silk Dupioni.

I think black tie is too formal, there is no church involved, the ceremony will last 20 minutes. We are going for more of a "garden party" effect...of course my soon to be mother in law disagrees.

Dear Hklnyc,

I agree with you, although it could be black tie even if not held in a church. It sounds more like evening resort wear, which is close to what you suggested. Garden party attire isn't a dress code and could be confusing.

This couldn't be included on the invitation but could be written on an enclosure.

Best wishes,
