     Breaking the news: No Tuxedos

My fiance is Native American and looks it, long hair and all. While I have never been fond of tuxedos, I think one would look even more ridiculous on him than on a lot of other men. However, whenever family members or others learn that I do not intend to stuff him into a tuxedo, they object and try to convince me that grooms MUST wear tuxedos. How do I tactfully inform them that this is my wedding and I want my husband-to-be to look good and be comfortable, even if it breaks tradition?

Thank you for any suggestions.

Dear No Tuxes,

Not all grooms should wear tuxedos. A tuxedo is formal evening attire. If your wedding is formal and in the evening, then perhaps he should. But, if it is during the day, no.

My wedding, many years ago, was fairly informal and held during the day. My husband wore a suit. It would have been ridiculous of him to wear a tux.

Best wishes,
