Groom & Groomsmen Attire for summer wedding

HELP!

We are getting married in mid-August (read:CALIFORNIA-HOT) at an Italian Villa, and the wedding will be an outdoors semi-formal occassion, beginning at 330pm. I don't like the formal look of a tux for all the guys and was wondering what might be the best option for the groom/groomsmen. Someone suggested having the groom stand out and be the only one wearing a suit, and the other guys could wear simple dress shirts and ties. Please feel free to make suggestions!

FYI: My dress is an off-white, v-neck, lace mermaid gown (could go formal, semi-formal)

Dear Villabride,

I am totally against any wedding not wearing tuxedos, but if you must a nice linen suit for everyone in an earthtone would be nice.
