     Rennisance Wedding Father tux??

I am having a Renissance wedding, everyone in the wedding (brides maids, groomsmen, and groom) will all be wearing Renissance clothing. i will be wearing a very Renissance dress....but I have a problem...Should my father also be dressed in Renissance style. i don't know if he is up to this idea yet. Although he told me to forget the wedding and go to vegas! Frown I want him to take part in this wedding should I buy him a rennisance outfit and make him wear it? Or just let him go with a tux????

thanks

Dear Rennisance Wedding,

OK, I'm picturing you forcing your reluctant father into a period piece of clothing. Yep, that would be something to watch. I just can't imagine a father who would have rather had you go to Vegas slipping into a Rennisance garb. I feel that it would be better, in this case, to forgo the traditional 'father dressing like the groom's men' for father being more comfortable.

Best wishes,

Well all the grooms men are going to be dressing in the renissance wedding clothing...i just didn't know if it would look dumb with him in a tux...or do you think it would even matter?

I feel for you and hope that you can have exactly that wedding that you are hoping for. But, you can't force anyone to do something they don't want to. You can, though, ask (and especially with dads) even plead.

Perhaps all of the parents could be dressed in conservative formal wear, so your dad doesn't stand out.

Hi there!

I am another Renaissance/Medieval fan, actually I am doing a twist of the times by doing a modernized wedding with elements of renaissance/victorian/celtic touches to the ceremony & reception, so I understand your concern.

A great idea would be to let him wear a tux, but to spice it up a bit to accomodate the theme...

Perhaps an ascot tie instead of a bowtie would help .. oh god I have to be cheesy.. "tie" it in with the rest of the theme! :)

I originally wanted a full renaissance wedding, but my fiance's family is Italian and they like the traditionalism to weddings. I got an Eve of Milady off the shoulder ball gown, but I am wearing a v band circlet and adding sheer bell sleeves to the dress. My fiance is wearing a tux, but with a brocade ascot & tails, and might even carry the traditional medieval sword. We also got a very flexible priest who doesn't mind blending in a traditional celtic handfasting with cords tied around our hands to bind our souls together. So there are a lot of things you can do to keep both you & the attendants happy!

best wishes & good luck to you!!! :)

Danielle
