Should father of the groom wear suit or tuxedo?

Dear Experts,
In reading the various posts on this topic, I am a little confused! At first I understood that my husband (FOG) was to wear a tuxedo to match the groomsmen and the FOB. Now I am reading that if he is not part of the Bridal party, he can wear a suit. He would much prefer the later! This is a 7pm wedding, semi-formal attire. The bridesmaids are wearing different dresses in various shades of lavender, all floor length. The groom and groomsmen will be in black tuxedos. Could you please clear this up for me? Thank you so much!

Dear Sweetbee,

He is still considered part of the bridal party because he is one of the fathers. So, he should wear what they are wearing.

Best wishes,
