     Tuxedos with beach theme

Me and my fiance have always wanted to have our wedding on the beach, however she is from Sioux City Iowa (we live in Denver) and most of her family could not attend. So we decided to have a beach theme reception in Sioux City. Now it seems that her mother in law wants a formal wedding and wants the groomsmen in Tuxs while I wanted casual floral printed camp shirts. It looks like the only comprimise will be to wear tux's at the ceremony and change into the beach shirts for the reception. Is it too much to ask my groomsman to change, and also is it in-appropriate to buy the beach shirt in addition to renting a tux. Should I purchase the beach shirts for them?

Dear Brett,

Her mother in law? Wouldn't that be your mother?

It doesn't matter, but you two should be planning this and create the type of wedding you wish. Plus, a tux is formal evening wear. So, unless the wedding is at night, these would be inappropriate. The worse part is that it isn't proper to have two different formalities if the events are back to back. Everyone would have to change.

And, it is a bit much to ask anyone in your bridal party to change. Just think of the bride and bridesmaids. They would have to match your formality.

It appears that your fiancee needs to talk to whomever is trying to rethink your plans because this won't work well.

Best wishes,
