When to wear a morning suit

We are having a rather formal church wedding in October. My fiance would like the groomsmen and I to wear morning suits. I'm fine with that choice, as the ceremony is at 2:00 in the afternoon. However, the reception does not begin until either 6:00 or 7:00pm at a country club. With the evening reception are morning suits still a good choice?

Dear Disco,

That is a tough one. But, the real problem is the delay. This isn't fair for your guests unless you are hosting an activity for interim. As good hosts we shouldn't keep our guests waiting for hours.

To be truly proper you would be changing from the morning suits into tuxedos for the reception. If not, I suppose you would be wearing tuxedos during the day, which isn't quite proper. It is being done more and more, most likely because so many do not know the rules.

Best wishes,
