     Why White Tuxedo Jackets?

I have noticed that Rebecca Black prescribes white dinner jackets for summer (evening) weddings. I have been studying tuxedo etiquette for three years now and have not once encountered this rule. Ever since white dinner jackets were introduced in 1933 they were treated as warm weather alternatives, not essentials. I am creating a definitive guide to correct black tie so I would very much appreciate knowing when this new rule came in to existence and which etiquette authorities support it.

By the way, it's wonderful to see the site's experts reminding readers that cutaways or strollers are required for formal daytime weddings. Now if only they could explain that the tailcoat is NOT a type of tuxedo . . .

Best regards,
Peter Marshall

I would love to have that guide when it is completed.

I'm not sure when these rules came into view. But, I have read this in many etiquette books, such as Emily Post Etiquette. It simple states that the white is preferred for warm weather and during the summer months. I believe it is just because it looks cooler.

Please let us know when your guide is available. All of us want the most up to date and comprehensive information.

Best wishes,

Thanks for your response - I'll have to take another look at my Emily Post books.

Thanks again

My black tie project is actually a web site but it appears that I am not allowed to indicate URLs in this forum. I will e-mail you directly.

Cheers
