     black suit or tux?

We are having an outdoor, evening wedding (6:00), with a cocktail hour and sit-down dinner inside after the ceremony.

My fiance is trying to decide between wearing a tux or buying a nice black suit. He is only having a best man (no groomsmen), so we wouldn't have to worry about matching a lot of people.

I think since it's in the evening our wedding would be considered semi-formal...Is a black suit even appropriate to consider? Or is a tux the way to go?

(I don't know if it matters, but my maid of honor will likely wear a tea-length black dress.)

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Dear Chi,

It depends upon the formality of your venue and your dress. If the venue, dinner, and your dress is formal, then he should be in a tux. But, if you would consider your dress to be a dressy, long cocktail dress, then the suit would be fine.

Best wishes,
