my FH wants to buy his tux

My FH wants to buy a tux. He says that a rental has been worn to proms or even another groom. He says that I get buy my own dress and he wants to buy his own tux. I am very supportive of this, plus we go to functions that would require him to rent them in the future, which would save some money. However, my parents think that it is weird that he wants to buy one, and my mother keeps arguing with me saying that I could spend the money elsewhere (they are paying for the whole wedding). How can I tell her that this is really important to us?

Thank you for all of your advice. This forum is great and very helpful. I recommend it to a lot of my friends that are engaged! Thanks so much!

If the groom wants his own tux, and you parent's aren't on board, then pay for it yourselves and avoid the issue completely. As long as you think he'll get some more use of the tuxedo later, it seems like a reasonable purchase. Be sure he selects something classic and not too trendy to get the longest use. But, of course you understand that clothing does go in and out of style. Plus, some men do put on a bit of weight after they are married. Just something to consider. Shocked

Personally, I wish I could rent all of my clothing because once I wear a dress I never like to be seen in it again and I become bored with it. But, I'm not loaded and, of course, I do wear the dress again.
