     tux or dark suit

My mom is insisting that because I am wearing a wedding gown, my groom, father and best main must wear tuxedos! I say that dark suits are perfectly acceptable. Who is right? Help!

Dear Joey's Girl,

Your mom is right, tuxedos only. This is a wedding not a barbecue!

Regards,

Well, as much as I really want people to dress up more... from an etiquette point of view, it depends.

If your dress is semi formal, the suits would be fine. If your dress is formal, your groom and groomsmen should be dressed accordingly. Tuxedos are evening formal wear and should be worn for formal evening weddings. The stroller or cutaway jacket should be worn for formal to very formal weddings during the day.

Best wishes,
