We are getting married in 2 weeks in Sedona AZ, a beautiful outside location. The ceremony is informal, 3pm and there are no guests. My dress is ivory, dropped waist/halter satin gown, simple but elegant. I have felt traditional tuxedos are too formal and have been looking for another option. An associate at MW suggested a taupe suit for the occasion! The ensemble she put together, looked great but I am worried we won't look like we are there to be married. We have been debating whether this would be formal enough. I have been searching for proper attire and dark suits are always suggested for a daytime ceremony. Are we out of our minds to think we could get away with an earthtoned silk suit or should be still with the basic tux and play it down by pairing it with an everything in ivory point collar, euro and vest? Or perhaps a dark suit, ivory shirt and light colored slacks? Your help is much appreciated!!!!!

Dear Suited,
A tux is formal evening attire, so it wouldn't be an appropriate choice for this event anyway. A suit would be best. The color of the suit you describe would be best suited for the summer or a location that is warm all of the time. I don't know how the weather is in Sedona year round. But, it is winter. So, the color may appear too light for the season.
(Most of us are not following the old rules of color anymore, but mostly focusing on suitable colors and the weight of fabrics for the area)
A dark suit will probably be your best bet for an informal afternoon wedding.
