tuxedos w/ suspenders instead of cumberbund

Our wedding is in August in Chicago and its going to be very hot. Because it will be so hot I am considering doing suspenders instead of a vest or cumberbun.

Is this appropriate attire?

Thank you!!

Dear Thornhill,

A tuxedo is formal evening attire. So, you wouldn't be wearing one during the day. But, a tuxedo should be worn with a vest or cumberbun.

There are no etiquette police to enforce this though.

Best wishes,
