     Alterations

Is it better to pay more money to purchase a dress from a Bridal Boutique or to purchase your dress and pay for alterations separately? I can't seem to get a straight answer from any bridal store.

Better or more affordable?

If you know of a good seamstress you trust then buy your dress wherever you like and have her do the alterations. But, there's no way to know how much alterations will cost until you select a dress since each dress may need different alterations.

I know absolutely no one. I know my dress will have to be taken in quite a few inches though since I am loosing all of my baby weight from just having my daughter. The bridal shop is already charging me 75 dollars to order my dress in shorter then the standard size.

If you've already ordered the dress from the bridal shop then consult your contract about how they handle alterations. If you don;t know a seamstress, and don't think you can find one, then stick with your bridal shop.

Losing weight after having a baby may not go exactly as planned so be sure to have someone very experienced providing the alterations.

Just a supporting consideration or two - not just every seamstress can alter wedding gowns. And many bridal shops will not allow their seamstresses to touch gowns purchased at other shops.
