Brides attire at an evening reception

We will be getting married in the Caribbean on our own but coming back and having a big reception party with friends and family. I would like to know if it is improper of me to wear either a long or cocktail length BLACK dress to my evening reception party? Is that bad etiquette?

Thank you

Can you tell us more about the reception such as location, time of day, etc?

It is in the evening, from 6:30pm until 11:00pm. It is at an Inn, maybe 150 to 160 will attend, and will also have a live band.
