Finding a seamstress to make wedding gown fit.

UnsureI'm hoping you can help me. I bought my wedding dress at a huge designer sample sale. I was so excited to have found a $7000, gorgeous dress of my dreams for a fraction of the price, that I didn't think it was an issue that I am twice the size of the dress! I figured I'd workout, diet and make it fit. I've lost 15 pounds so far, but I realized this is humanly impossible! I am 6 weeks away from my wedding day with no money to buy another dress and I desperately want to wear my non returnable one. I am hoping to be able to find a seamstress who can help make this dress fit me but I don't know where to look to find such a person. Please help me. I've made some horrible decisions! All I do is cry about it. By the way, my fiancee cannot know I botched this-we're already in debt! Thank you for responding.

You haven't really indicated how close you are to your goal or what size you are now as opposed to the current dress size but letting the dress out more than one size may prove impossible. Please contact a professional seamstress in your area. Try looking in your local yellow pages of the phone book, ask at your local dry cleaning shops or search online.

Above all - do not try to starve yourself or go on any crazy fad diets since you'll want to feel healthy and look your best. Stick to a sensible eating plan like The South Beach Diet which offers a well balanced meal plan of protein, good fats and carbs and whole grains. This is an eating plan you can adopt for the rest of your life for good health. Get some aerobic exercise in every day and do some sort of weight training classes (see if there is a curves in your area). Eating, sleeping and exercise will help you feel and look better and will also help to relieve stress.

Take Care...

Re: [TWQadmin] Wedding Dress 911/SOLUTION FOUND!! [In reply to]

Thank you very much for your savvy advice. I just wanted to post what ended up happening with the situation in case someone else has this problemin the future. I called a bridal store and asked for the alterations department. I was connected to a European woman. Many old school European women really know their stuff in the sewing department so I asked her if she did any work on the side. She gave me her phone number and we met. She told me that she could make my particular gown work for me but she essentially had to put a whole new back on my top. It's a two piece dress. That helped! Also, she is making the waist of my dress larger and because my dress has so much material that works, too. She sent me to a fabric store in Chicago where they specialize in wedding dress material and I was able to find a close match to the material of my Italian wedding dress. Also, I am temporarily on a very healthy diet called The Rice Diet. I have lost a noticable amount of weight and I am eating 3 square meals a day with plenty of fruits and veggies. I was able to find a solution and I am so grateful and no longer at the end of my rope. The best part is that she is doing all of this incredible work for just $150 dollars! Praise God! Good luck and God Bless with your weddings ladies. And be creative with your resources!!!!Wink

Thank for coming back to let us know how you're doing. We appreciate knowing that our advice has helped and happy that you have had some success!

Regarding your diet choice - everything I have ever read about the rice diet (Duke University Diet) says that you should be under the care of a physician or have some sort of medical/nutritionist overseeing your weight loss. (personally, I prefer South Beach Diet. I have had great success - lost 40 lbs - 20 to go- and I feel great. I could eat this way forever and my cholesterol is way down and energy way up!).

Be sure you speak to your doctor and get regular checkups while on this special diet. You wouldn't want to be sick for your big day. Smile

Thanks for sharing!
