Formal wedding dress for a second marriage?

We are planning a very informal wedding (2nd for both of us) by the side of a river, with a short cake/champagne celebration (not really a reception), then inviting the whole wedding party (our kids) and people who attend the wedding (mostly family and a couple of close friends) to go tubing on the river with us for the day.

My problem is this...I've found the perfect dress, but it is full length, and BROWN/PLUM/COPPER (weird color to describe, but just beautiful)....I wasn't planning on a full-length dress, and thought he could just wear a suit (at most) or just a dress shirt and khaki pants..MAYBE a sport coat (at least)...I have 3 girls (ages 14, 12 and 5) who want to get dressed up...he has two boys (16 and 13) who would probably rather die than get dressed up....

Is it OK if we girls are more formal than the boys or is that going to look crazy??? Should I just abandon this dress and keep it for a formal event later and look for something less fancy for the wedding???

HELP PLEASE!!!!!

Dear Wants to Dress Up,

We ladies do love to dress up, huh? It sounds like you already know what you should do. Yep, it is difficult to give up the perfect dress, but it really seems too formal for this occasion. Plus, all of you should be dressed in the same formality.

So... sorry, it is best to dress down a bit. Perhaps you can find another occasion to wear it. It sounds like a lovely dress.

Best wishes,
