Gown Style for Sunday Afternoon Wedding

We are having a Sunday afternoon wedding. We chartered a yacht that the wedding and reception which will be held from 2-5 in the afternoon. This is also a second marriage for both us. My question is... should I be looking at a dress or a wedding gown. When I called the bridal shop to book an appointment I told her I was looking for something informal and (less than floor length) dress. She told me I would be surprised how women come in looking for just that and leave with a floor length gown. The thought of wearing a floor length gown again doesn't seem right to me or am I being old fashioned? Our reception is going to be small, only 60 or so guests.

Dear Xkwisit,

The gown should reflect the formality of your wedding and yours does not seem formal to me. Of course length is only one element of formality. But, it seems to me that street or tea length would be best. Sometimes the best dress for an informal wedding it not sold in a bridal shop. So, it may be best to look around. Wink

Best wishes,
