Purple Velvet at 9AM Catholic Church Marriage Blessing

My husband and I have been married for 29 years and we are finally getting our marriage blessed in the Catholic Church. I have a beautiful full length royal purple velvet dress I would dearly love to wear to the mass, but I'm not sure if it's appropriate at 9am on Thanksgiving Day. I wouldn't think twice about it if it were an evening event. This is very important to me and I do not want the color of my dress to be inappropriate.

Dear Purplegirl,

It really isn't so much the color, although purple does seem a bit strong a color for morning, it is more an issue of the style of dress for the time of day. If it appears to be more of a cocktail style dress (evening), then it wouldn't appear appropriate to most people. Really look at your dress closely, scrutinizing it, asking yourself if it appears appropriate for that time of day.

Best wishes,
