I tried on a dress in the store and it fit perfectly. They took my measurements and when the dress came in I could barely fit into it. They said it was because no one had worn the dress before. The saleswoman suggested that I use an iron to steam the bodice and "pull" on the fabric over an ironing board. I am a little leary to do this. I have already had the dress altered (took up sleeves, skirt, and made bustle) and I really don't want to have it altered again. I have worn it for an hour or two on different occassions to try to stretch it out a little, but I still have a little "back bulge" between my shoulder blades. I have four weeks to loose a little weight, but I don't really want to count on that solving the problem. Any suggestions? My fiancee has suggested duck tape......
I'm assuming that you did not gain weight and this is the reason the dress is tight--you didn't mention this. If the dress fit before they altered it, they must have altered it incorrectly. And, I doubt very much that stretching the dress would be a positive solution. The dress will not hang right. So, the only thing I can think of (as long as it wasn't you gaining weight as the problem) is to help them realize that this is their problem and get you a new dress or fix this one. I really can't see the dress stretching and still looking right.
I'm not a dress expert but I've heard that dresses in a shop are stretched from the constant trying on.
You also said they took your measurements which is why I don't understand why dresses come in and still have to be altered...someone needs to explain this to me. Nancy Tucker President of Weddings Beautiful US http://www.weddingsbeautiful.com
