Wedding dress for a registry office wedding

I am getting married in 2 weeks in a registry office in sydney and am now - at this late stage, having serious doubts about the dress i chose to wear. I think i should have gone for something less formal than the gown i chose bearing in mind that the whole event will be over in 20 mins, with only a few people present. Is there an unwritten rule about what you wear to a registry office wedding?

Dear Alyson,

Typically the dress should reflect the formality of the event. Plus, you would want to match your groom's attire.

Having said that, some women dress in gowns because this will be their only wedding and they want to 'dress up'. I haven't heard or read of any 'rule' against this. Many more women, though, just dress in dressy dresses.

Best wishes,
