Wedding dress for an older bride.

My 66 yr old widowed mom has met a wonderful man and they are planning an August wedding. What type of dress or gown would be appropriate for an older woman. She was hoping for something long since she has a tumor (size of a soft ball) on her ankle and would like it not to show. The wedding is informal.

If the wedding is informal, that would call for a tea-length dress. If, however, your Mom would want her tumor not to show, it it would be totally acceptable for her to wear full length. There are many elegant dresses available now at major department stores due to heavy wedding season, and she won't have a problem finding a nice dress. Two-piece outfit with a jacket on top would look not too formal and very nice at the same time. If the wedding is informal, she can also go for light prints or lighter colors, like sage, champagne, dusty rose or powder blue - depending on her eye and hair color as well as skin tone. Enjoy the wedding!

Congratulations to your mom!

Here is an article about selecting a wedding dress for a second marriage. She may find this site to be useful.

THANKS! she has dirty blonde hair with some grey, she has blue eyes and they change to green with moods.

Another quick question, Hair, hers is short, does she need to put anything in it or can she? like a tiara, head band, barretts?

she was thinking of teal for a dress but I will tell her light colors like you sugested, maybe she can find a soft teal color.

Thanks again!

If your Mom has blonde hair with some grey and blue eyes, strong colors like Teal can make her look pale. I would go for softer shades as I previously suggested and maybe even consider seafoam color. If she can find a very light teal she could go ahead if she loves the color so much, but to make her features stand out more and not be overwhelmed with the dress, I would go for softer shades. If her hair is short, a nice styling with highlights would be great. She can put in an elegant barrette on the side if her style would be assymmetric, but I would not go beyond that. Good luck and best wishes to your Mom! She has a great, caring daughter!
