I just got engaged and we are planning a November wedding. I really want to lose some weight before shopping for a wedding dress. I joined Weight Watchers a couple of weeks ago and it's going really well. My goal is still 50 pounds away and it will take several months to lose. My friend is getting married late this summer and told me that when she bought her dress the bridal shop said it takes 4-6 months to get it in and then 4 weeks to have it altered! Is this always the case? I really want to meet my goals before the wedding but this will not give me enough time. I'm worried I will be stuck paying hundreds to have it taken in.
It depends on the bridal shop and what type of dress you select. For example, some designer gowns might take longer because they are custom made. Venture out to some local shops to see what sort of dress you might like and speak with the sales people.
Be careful not to overestimate how much weight you might lose. Now, I don't want to discourage your weight loss goal (I'm actually doing Nurtisystem right now so I am with you 100%!) just be sure to be realistic. I'm happy to hear that you have chosen a sound, healthy eating plan as a way to lose the weight before your wedding. Just be sure that you exercise and eat right, following the plan, because you'll want to have enough energy to do the planning as well as to enjoy your wedding day.
