My mother and I were discussing gloves with my strapless dress for my early October wedding in Texas (there's no telling what the weather will be like!). The ceremony is at 1:30 in the afternoon with a cake and punch reception immediately following. My gown is a very simple a-line organza dress with a short train - the bust is modestly decorated with sequins and pearls, and I thought elbow length gloves would be a great addition. I want to keep my hair very simple and possibly add a single tier organza veil. My mother thinks that maybe the gloves are too much. I can see her point, but I really like the gloves! Also, I'm "petite"...5'1"...would that make a difference for gloves or not? Thank you!!

Dear Loves Gloves,
I think the gloves would be lovely. But, I'm wondering about the mix of formality. Your wedding is early, very simple reception, yet your gown is on the formal side. If you add the gloves, it will be even more formal in appearance.
It is your call, but do be careful not to appear too formal if your event is less so.

Dear TXBride:
Gloves are optional for formal or semiformal events. It sounds like your's is informal given the simplicity of your gown and hair, as well as the cake and punch reception. Like Rebecca stated, it's your call. But I'd suggest not wearing the gloves.
