matching grooms attire to formality of wedding dress

I need help determing what look to go for in our upcoming wedding. We live on the coast of N.C. and we want to tastfully incorporate a beachy feel into our entire wedding. I would like my FH to wear khakis, a crisp white button down shirt, and a navy blazer. What style wedding gown will best compliment his attire? I prefer a clean, simple dress, but need some ideas of what to look for? Also as far as color for my dress is stark white my only option? I want my guests to dress similarly to my FH and know that my dress and the invitations set the tone of the wedding. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Dear Michaelina,

You could choose a dress in the same formality as a cocktail dress in any color--yea.

You could use an insert in your invitations to inform guests of the casual attire and perhaps mention what your expectations are.

Best wishes,

So would it be inappropriate for me to wear a traditional wedding dress (no beads and lace- more sleek and not fussy) to accompany the khaki/blazer combo (and tie of course) I want it to be classy but not stuffy. I also want to wear a long white dress (not a pink or blue one).

Typically the length of the dress is determined by the time of day. But, some long dresses are more informal. So, if you can find a dress that is fairly informal, long, but classy (daytime cocktail formality), then you have a perfect match to your groom's attire. The dress you describe sounds good.

Dear Michaelina,

Congratulations on your wedding! I think you can definitely wear a "traditional" long white wedding dress. You might want to consider something with simple, clean lines, something without a long train, and a light and airy look (possibly chiffon). Also, I do not think you are limited only to white. If you find a dress you love in a shade of white, diamond white, or even ivory you could always find a shirt for your future husband in a similiar shade as well.

Good Luck and Best Wishes!
