medieval style wedding dress for an outdoor August wedding
I have always wanted an outdoor wedding with an almost medieval style dress (long belled sleeves, v-neck). While I could do without the sleeves, I want something in between formal and informal, and I'm not sure how to meld my ideas into what to do with the rest of the bridal party. I also love the idea of having a deep red and silver as accent colors, but now that we're thinking about an August wedding, I don't know how appropriate the colors or style of dress I want is.
The groom and I aren't into the bright "summery" colors, and I'd thought that silver and red would go along well with both what we like, as well as work well with my desire to incorporate aspects of the handfasting ceremony (I am Wiccan). My sister (also my Maid of Honor) deems herself to be a fashion queen and is against all my colors and choices, and I'm worried that her sense of style is going to take over everything I always wanted if I listen to her, but I don't want the wedding to look ridiculous, either.

The August-Outdoor issue may prevent you from wearing the exact dress you've envisioned. However, it shouldn't prevent you from choosing a dress that reflects your personal style. For that, you are going to have to go the old-fashioned route of trying on a lot of different gowns until you find a style that both suits your personality and won't smother you in the heat.
Deep red is perfectly appropriate in the summer. You might want to weave the silver in carefully to avoid something more reminiscent of a Christmas theme, but using silver accents should be just fine. Perhaps your bridal party could wear deep red dresses in a style appropriate to the formality of wedding you choose. Or have them carry "black magic" roses which are very deep red (if available in your area that time of year, and I do not claim to be a florist, so check with your local pros) or flowers that are accented with shades of red in available flowers. There should be lots of ways to incorporate what you are looking for and finding a floral designer to help sort things out is my best advice.
As for your sister, listen lovingly to what I imagine is her attempt to express her love and affection for you, thank her for caring enough to give you input, then make the decisions you need to make to be happy (as long as you avoid being intentionally hurtful).
